I recently took a teaching position in a classroom. It has been quite a few years since I’ve had my own classroom. There are so many questions that I asked myself before taking this position. Now that I’ve taken it, there are so many more questions I am asking myself. Most of them center around being ready to take on this role. How do we ever know if we are up to the task?
Teaching is a lot like motherhood. The job is never done and there is always more you can be doing. I’ve spent the last few months preparing for this teaching position and I still feel like asking, “Am I ready for this?” Can I do the job that I was called to do and can I do it well?
The problem with all of my questions is that they center around me. God has promised so many blessings and assurances to us that we never need to ask if we are up to the task. God is always up to the task. He is always ready to help us through and guide us on our way. Whatever the task is, we know that God is right there with us and that we are not finishing anything on our own.
I do not have to worry that I might not be good enough. I don’t need to worry that someone else might do a better job. I need to focus on God. He is my strength and my guide. God will provide what I need when I need it and that is all I need to focus on. Whatever your task is, begin it with the Lord. He will help you begin and will carry you through.
I heard in my Pastor’s sermon on Sunday that it’s not all about how much faith I have in God. It’s not our faith that does the work. It’s our God. Our God is what gets us through and helps us. He is our focus and strength. We don’t have to worry that we are not enough or not up to the task. God has promised that he is always up to the task for us! “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you! Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” (James 1:4, 12)
I can say with confidence, “I am up to the task” with the help of God!
Dear God, Thank you for the promises that you have made to me. Help me to remember them when I am feeling inadequate or unsure. Remind me that you are faithful and always ready to answer our prayers. Amen.
