Here are some great FREE books you can print out for your children! They are all themed around Thanksgiving and turkeys. What is better than reading about turkeys and making books about them? Maybe eating turkey…but these are less work to prepare!
When my daughter was first learning to read we made lots of little books on the computer for her. She loved adding her own pictures and then we wrote simple sentences to help her start reading them. They were repetitive and easy enough for her to read. It really increased her enthusiasm for reading and learning to read on her own. Now she is a great reader and loves books!
These fun turkey activity books will hopefully also help your young readers to want to dig into reading as well. They can create their very own book and hopefully learn to “read” it as well. In the early stages of reading, it is okay for your young readers to memorize a book through repetition and feel successful in “reading” it. They may not really be reading the book, but they are learning plenty of reading skills. However, they are learning to open a book correctly. In addition, they are also learning to follow the letters in the correct reading direction. They are also learning that those letters together are forming words and sentences. The more success children have in learning those skills first, the better readers they will become.
These FREE printable turkey activity books are two-fold. They are made to be easy emergent reading books for children. These books are also meant as activity books as well. They are books that can be colored and some have other activities in them as well to be completed by the child.
This first book is a Thanksgiving book. It tells a very simplified version of the Pilgrims coming to America. The pages are in black and white and are made that way so there is an option to color them as well as read them.
The next book is all about colors. This book is black and white as well. The children can color the pages as each page directs them. This book is great for color recognition and learning their color words!
This book is an activity book with different early handwriting skills. It includes drawing, line tracing, letter tracing, counting, and an eye spy turkey page!
My last book is a turkey drawing book. The children are to add different body parts to the turkey on each page. The will have a full turkey at the end of the book to look at. It also has simple sentences that the children can start to read if they are ready. I hope you find these useful and fun for your children! I use them in my room all the time and the kids love the different activities and they love to read the books to me and their parents!
