I have three girls so we’ve done a few princess themed parties. This one happens to be centered on Rapunzel or Tangled, if you wish! She has a certain appeal with her long flowing hair and her funny sidekick Flynn Rider. My daughter chose Tangled because she was growing her hair out and was attempting to grow it as long as Rapunzel. She eventually gave up and got tired of it taking so long to brush all the tangles out. Now she has short hair but she of course still loves Rapunzel!
My daughter celebrates her birthday every year with my nephew. They take turns with the themes! My husband and his family are all big Star Wars fans. So my daughter and her cousins have all been Star Wars fans from little on. This isn’t princesses and girly but my daughter loved this party! She loves sharing her party every year with her cousin! Check out the fun Star Wars Themed Party we had! [Read more…]

This is my HORSE themed birthday party for kids. My daughter loves horses so we did a horse racing sort of mini Kentucky Derby style party. The other option would be to have a cowboy/cowgirls style party. Since this was a party for our family and adults and kids would be attending we thought the Derby style would be fun.
CAKE: I started with a cupcake horse cake. Decorated 25 cupcakes and arranged them as you see below. I also decorated a few other cupcakes to look like horses. Using white circus peanuts for heads and chocolate wafer cookies for necks and cut tootsie rolls for tails. The faces and the mane were made out of chocolate frosting. They turned out pretty cute.
ACTIVITIES: When everyone arrived, the children made their own hobby horse. We used long wrapping paper rolls. I didn’t have enough so I substituted a few with just long brown paper rolled up. They decorated a head that was precut and stapled together. We used brown and black yarn pieces and stapled those on for a mane. Then they named their horse. Later the kids would race their horses around the field. For a little adult fun, we placed “bets” on which horse they thought would win the race. Some of the adults even brought their Derby hats to wear for the occasion!
Here are a few of the adults placing bets
This is a picture of the children are racing their horse around the track we made using colored cones. It was a close fought race! We gave a ring of flowers to put around the winning horse after the race. Also, some candy for the participants!
Decorations: Hang a long ribbon with colored triangles hanging down, decorate with horse pictures or stickers, Large horse picture that could be used for pin the tail on the horse later.
Food: -Derby Pie
–Mint Juleps (for the adults)
-a big bowl of apples for the kids and their horse
Other: Play horseshoes (plastic for the kids, real for the adults), Have a photo shoot area with a saddle set up and bandanas, riding hats, or cowboy hats for them to wear, Have a ring of fake flowers to place on the winner of the horse race.
