Do you ever sit around wondering, “Why me?” Why is this happening? How come my child is suffering? Why does my friend have cancer? There are so many times we don’t understand what is happening or why it is happening. The only one who knows is God. So where is the comfort in that? [Read more…]
Working overtime is not an uncommon thing for people. Many jobs require overtime. Parents who stay at home to take care of their children could often say they work “overtime.” Do you ever feel you are not getting what you deserve for all that overtime you are putting in? Does anyone even notice you are working so hard? You are not alone. [Read more…]
It really doesn’t matter what age you are, waiting is hard. It can be as simple as waiting in line at the store, waiting for your birthday, or waiting for the day to be over! Every day we are constantly waiting for something. How do you get through? [Read more…]
Why do kids think they can get away with little white lies? Do they think they won’t get caught or that no one will figure out their secrets? Maybe they just think they are smarter than their parents! We probably did the same thing as children back in our childhood days! [Read more…]
Lord Jesus Christ, you set us free. Accept our thanks eternally! Forgiven through your precious blood, we now are reconciled to God. Defend us, Lord, from sin and shame; Help us by your almighty name to bear our crosses patiently, consoled by your great agony. For thus the certainty we gain. That you will always true remain And not forsake us in our strife But lead us out of death to life. (Christian Worship 123 vs.1,3,4)
Every day we struggle with different things in our life. The kids are having issues at school. Your boss is giving you grief at work. Your spouse isn’t pulling their weight when it comes to parenting duties. Whatever the struggle is today, it is real and it is weighing on you. Some days it would be so much easier to just stay in bed and leave all our worries behind. Other days, picking up everything and setting sail off into the sunset sounds just as much fun! However, we know that our struggles and worries will still be there when we get out of bed or when we return from our sailing voyage. So how can we really relieve ourselves of these burdens?
God tells us to take them to God. He is always there and never changing. We may have constant worries and burdens, but we also have a God who is constant. We have a God who has already taken on the biggest burden of life for us. God has wiped death off of our list of worries and has set us free! We are free to cast all of our worry and burdens on God. We are free to give thanks continually. Lastly, we are free to live and die for Jesus because we know what awaits us after death here on earth. We have been given the gift of eternal life through the blood and sacrifice of our Savior, Jesus. He bore our burdens, worries, and sins and took them to the cross for us.
Jesus took on all of our struggles and has set us free. Do you feel lighter already? The weight of sin and sorrow has been lifted! Remember this today when you are feeling the weight of life bearing down on you. It’s only for today, God has taken all my sin away!
Dear God, What a tremendous gift it is to know that you have taken all my sins away. Help me to remember that when I am feeling overwhelmed with the struggles of this life. Your saving truth gives me the strength and confidence to life for you! Amen.

Jesus, I will ponder now, On your holy passion; With your Spirit me endow, For such meditation. Grant that I in love and faith, May the image cherish, of your suffering, pain, and death, that I many not perish. (Christian Worship 98)
Lent is here and churches all around are focusing on the Jesus’ path to the cross. What is your focus? Are you pondering Jesus more often in your day? Some people purposely fast or give up something for Lent. The purpose of giving something up for awhile is to help you stop focusing on earthly things and place your focus on God.
Fasting is neither commanded nor forbidden by God in the Bible. There are many examples of fasting in the Bible. Moses, David, Elijah, all fasted at different times in their lives. Jesus also fasted in the desert. The devil tried to take advantage of his hunger but was not successful. Taking extra time for prayer and meditation with God is certainly a worthwhile use of our time. We often forget to make time in our schedules to ponder our sins and what God has done for us.
Jesus sacrificed everything for us. He paid the price of all of our sins on the cross. “He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) Our debt was paid and we have the gift of eternal life. We certainly should be able to take time out of our schedules to ponder and appreciate what Jesus did for us.
Whether you choose to give something up for Lent or not, take time to ponder what Jesus has done for you.

Moms are very protective of their children. We want them to be safe and feel loved. We try to protect them from danger and harm. Yet, as parents all know, we can’t always do that. Have you ever wondered what it was like to be Jesus’ mother Mary? Let’s put ourselves in her shoes for a moment today. [Read more…]
My daughter is still afraid of the dark. She insists on having the hall light on and the door wide open when she goes to bed. Often my husband and I chuckle when we try to close it and she yells out that she is still awake and wants it open. It seems like a silly fear when we are just outside her bedroom. Yet, if we are honest with ourselves…Aren’t we all a little afraid of the dark? [Read more…]
Children often get caught up in worrying about things. It can be little things like what clothes they are going to wear tomorrow or big things like whether their parents’ marriage is in trouble. As parents, it is important to notice this worrying and teach our children how to handle their worry and concerns. You might ask why? What’s the harm in a little worry and concern for others or themselves? [Read more…]
Parents throughout time have suffered from a lack of sleep. It is probably the first thing you learn about being a parent. Babies don’t let you sleep. I’d love to say it gets better, but kids don’t really let you either! No matter what time you put them to bed they are always up early! So when will we ever get any rest? [Read more…]
